Ask Amaya – Week 4 [Not getting your claims paid? – Find out why]

Hey there, it’s Amaya again, your very own online insurance specialist. This week I’m going to talk about the most disheartening thing that can happen to you as an insurance consumer – not getting your claims paid.

We’ve got more than just one person coming to us about this issue and we though that it’s high time to tell you what we know with experience.

If it’s been a while since you applied for a claim and if there is no sign of it coming through, chances are that you were never covered for the risks that were associated with the claim in the first place. However, you should’ve ideally been informed about this by your insurance company– typically through the agent that you are dealing with.

If the lack of cover isn’t the case, then you should probably talk to your lawyer about any legal loophole that you may be dealing with.

However, if you wish to renew your insurance with the same company, not getting a claim would result in your No Claims Bonus being higher next year (This is just me trying to show you the silver lining behind the whole thing).

But as we all know– prevention is always better than cure.

It’s extremely important that you are informed about how to prevent this from happening the next time and to take necessary precautions for the future.

It is up to you to make sure that you not just look at the price when you are making a choice, and also other important aspects like what exactly it covers (for example, does it cover airbags? What about the windscreen?). At the same time, make sure to enter accurate information when getting the comparison, as the premium for your cover will greatly depend on the details you give. If you purchase a policy for a lower value than what you actually require, chances are that you will always have to deal with this scenario– your claims not getting paid.
